Late July

March 29, 2011

Nicole Simone, Late July

“Good Behaviour,” the first single from Late July‘s forthcoming album Hospital Quiet, is a jagged little confection. Like its creator, the song is Californian with a Canadian chill, or Canadian kissed by California sun; Laurel Canyon in a lake-effect snowstorm. Sharp, biting lyrics, and quirky instrumentation make the song a pleasure for the ears and instantly hummable.

Late July (a.k.a. Nicole Simone) is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter. Born in Toronto, Ontario she spent her early years state side in Del Mar, California. After moving back to a suburb of Toronto, she began playing the guitar at the age of 13. She spent all her free time in record stores and is heavily influenced by Pavement, Tom Waits and Jeff Buckley. She is a three time graduate of Seneca College and York University in both arts, music, and sociology respectively. In 2010 Late July released her debut EP entitled ‘Side Swept’ produced by Adrian Ellis.

Late July will be celebrating the release of Hospital Quiet this week in Toronto. Join her March 30th at the Painted Lady with special guest Jessica Mitchell.
