Brock McLaughlin

Clever and camera-ready, Brock McLaughlin is a twenty-first century renaissance man.  As Vice President of Management and PR for Bent Penny Records, Brock works to bring attention to cool new acts like Late July and Tiny Danza. As if that weren’t enough to keep him busy, Brock also writes for theFuturists.ca and he just directed Rosedale’s new video.

When he’s not making appearances at red-carpet events and bachelor auctions around Toronto, Brock keeps up a steady stream of quips on his Twitter feed, often while holding court at a neighborhood Hooters.

Brock was nominated for 12 Questions by Nicole Simone (aka Late July), and we’re glad he found time to pencil us in.

1. What is your hometown?

Vancouver. I currently reside in Toronto.

2. With what fictional character do you most identify?

Depends on the day, today I’m feeling like Alfie (you know, the Jude Law/Micheal Caine movie).

3. In the movie of your life, cast an actor to play you.

I wish I could have James Dean play me, but I guess I would have to choose Robert Pattinson.

4. What work of art speaks to your soul?

Street Art, it’s something I want to get into this summer.

5. What books are you currently reading or recommending?

I just finished reading “Life” by Keith Richards, was a tad disappointing. Felt like it was lacking the rock n roll… I’m going need to find some new books for tour though.

6. What song or album is currently in heavy rotation on your iPod?

Childish Bambino is getting a lot of spins, Tiny Danza are up there as well.

7. What’s the last movie that made you cry?

“Toy Story 3” for sure, I remember seeing this in the theater with a bunch of rocker dudes, and we all look at each other trying to hold back tears at the end. What an emotional roller coaster. That movie is just an amazing look at childhood innocence.

8. Cat person or dog person?

Dogs for sure. My Pug is coming to Toronto this summer which highly excites me. Time for long walks on the beach, as the sun sets.

9. What is more important, truth or kindness?

Truth, kindness only gets you so far.

10. How do you define sin?

Something we all do, every day. Well at least I do… I guess that’s why they call me the devil.

11. How do you define virtue?

The foundation of a person, something I work on improving every day. It’s your own personal strong well being.

12. Design your headstone: What does it say? What does it look like?

Live Fast Die Young. I hope it talks about how I lived everyday to the fullest possibility (unless I was hungover)

It’s going have to be pretty big to hold my big head, which holds my big ego.

Bonus Question: Who would you like to see answer these questions?

Mike Tyson. I know he has a past that haunts him, but man that dude has fully turned himself around in recent years. I’d love to sit have a glass of scotch with him.
