For sound artist Jason Sloan, music can be found in unlikely places. From recordings of ambient sounds in rural environments to audio extracted by software from the digital noise of a photograph, anything is fair game for this eclectic and innovative artist.

Jason is an electronic musician, composer, new.media, sound and net.work artist working from Baltimore, Maryland. His work explores the aspects of spirituality and it’s connection in life, death, memory, systems and the virtual world. Through his performances, installations, audio environments, videos, net.work actions and sound recordings, Jason examines the need for transcendence beyond the body through a vehicle of visual ritual and sonic stimulation. He feels an urgency to evoke a collective experience between the viewer, listener and artist that can bridge the gap between the physical and non-physical worlds. The focus of this transcendence is not to conform to any current trends or systems, but to take a non-dogmatic approach to artistic and intellectual inquiry that explores the basic human need for spiritual alignment or wholeness.

In 2002 Sloan co-founded SLO.BOR Media with sound artist & web designer Matt Borghi as a vehicle for their individual releases and a platform for other artists. SLO.BOR Media is primarily a record label, but focuses on a variety of media and forms of distribution. SLO.BOR Media is also quite concerned with packaging, design, new media, and conceptual art.

Jason’s performances, installations, net.art and video works have been exhibited internationally including Berlin, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Kiev, Nagoya, Saint-Petersburg, Toulouse and Vienna. Jason released over a dozen studio albums and e.p.’s over the last decade on various record labels, and played live all over the US and Canada, including the influential Live Constructions radio program at Columbia University and Philadelphia’s The Gatherings concert series, one of the country’s oldest continuing ambient and electronic music series.

Jason is a Professor teaching full-time in the Interaction Design and Art [IDA] Department and coordinator for the soundArt concentration at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.
