Shannon and the Clams

August 18, 2011

As far as I’m concerned, if there’s music coming out of Oakland, CA…it’s got to be good. Shannon and the Clams are no exception to this hard fast rule that I’ve made up.

If you’re a fan of a sexy alto voice crooning at you with doo-wop, early rock, R&B, girl group classics, 60’s garage/psych, surf , punk sound style you’ve come to the right place. (Phew!) This mish mash of sound will have you swaying dreamily from the pit and that’s right where you’re supposed to be.

Shannon Shaw, Cody Blanchard, and Ian Amberson are all talented musicians in their own right and have lots of projects that divide their time but, their most recent self-titled album, “Shannon and the Clams”, was released in April of 2011. The release is worth grabbing just to listen to in your bedroom alone while daydreaming on your bed. But don’t think that it’s all swoon worthy – there’s enough punk at the heart of their music to make you dance on your bed too.

Their set on Saturday, August 20th, at the Badlander/Palace is sure to be crowded with Total Fest goers looking for a dance partner. Alright, it’ll just be me looking for one. Anyone know how to jitterbug?
