Kelly Carámbula

December 28, 2011

Kelly Carámbula is a busy lady. This graphic designer by day is juggling all kinds of exciting projects at night. Eat Make Read is Kelly’s delicious blog. With an astounding mix of colorful photos and recipes, Kelly provides friendly guidance peppered amidst her own cooking and baking successes and hurdles. But when Kelly’s not working or playing in her kitchen, she’s publishing Remedy Quarterly. Remedy is a lovely ad-free food magazine printed in 2-color offset and is described as something similar to the old community cookbooks of the past. The pages are filled with recipes, cures, tips, stories, and a few happy hour recipes from diverse contributors. Remedy is just the kind of thing you keep and pass down and around to your friends and family members.

And it would be a mistake to leave out Kelly’s other interests – her supportive husband Aaron and their photogenic dog Maude.

Keep up with Kelly, friends, she’s something special!

1. What is your hometown?

Niles, Michigan

2. With what fictional character do you most identify?

Yikes, I’m not sure. The first thing that came to mind was Jillian Jiggs—do you remember that book? I loved it as a child—basically it’s about a girl who’s too busy daydreaming and playing to clean her room. I still feel that way. I wouldn’t say that I most identify with her, but she makes me happy.

3. In the movie of your life, cast an actor to play you.

Tina Fey—she’s smart and funny.

4. What work of art speaks to your soul?

I love, love, love anything by Maira Kalman. I love the quirkiness and beauty of imperfection.

5. What books are you currently reading or recommending?

I’m currently reading Freedom by Jonathon Franzen and really liking it. I love it when a book sucks you in and you think about it even when you’re not reading it.

6. What song or album is currently in heavy rotation on your iPod?

I just started working out, so I’ve got Girl Talk on mega-rotation. When I’m working I love David Byrne’s Live from Austin ,TX.

7. What’s the last movie that made you cry?

I’m not usually a crier, but 50/50 had me crying like a baby!

8.  Cat person or dog person?

Dog all the way— I mean, look at her (maude)!

9. What is more important, truth or kindness?

Depends on who it is.

10.    How do you define sin?

I don’t really get into defining things like that.

11.    How do you define virtue?

I don’t really get into defining things like that.

12.   Design your headstone: What does it say? What does it look like?

I won’t have a headstone—I’m more of an ashes kinda lady.
