Mane Rok

February 14, 2012

Introduction by Tim Davids

Mane Rok is so prolific that any intro will invariably leave out something someone thinks is important – his work with Maneline, collabs with, like, everyone, including the Diamond Boiz and Yonnas Abraham of The Pirate Signal and Bravo One and Es Nine, and his award-winning Twitter feed, his agitprop project This Ones, and his album, Saul Amore: A Modern Day Massacre, dropping today.

It’s almost too easy to get caught up in the conviction of ManeRok’s voice, so every track he spits on, regardless of subject, works as a call to arms – his passion and incendiary energy make him more than just a rapper – he’s a movement, and he’s been using all of his talent and charisma to push Denver hiphop for *years.*

1. What is your hometown?

Capital D aka Denver

2. With what fictional character do you most identify?

Scott Pilgrim

I’m an 80’s baby…what you expect?

3. In the movie of your life, cast an actor to play you.

No one plays Mane.

Ha!

Since Hollywood lacks “leading men” of the “brown” type…I’d say Edward James Olmos. Cool ass scratchy voice. Distinguished gentleman….but from the barrio none the less.

4. What work of art speaks to your soul?

Seriously…it’s been hard enough to narrow down the answers for the other questions. I’ve been privy to so much moving art..it’s hard to say. Do I lose points if I say “Diablo” at DIA?! hahahahaha….joking…of course….GO BRONCOS!

5. What books are you currently reading or recommending?

“Enemy in Blue” by Derek Blass

6. What song or album is currently in heavy rotation on your iPod?

Album: “Saul Amore: A Modern Day Massacre” -Mane Rok & Deejay Tense Release Date 2/14/12

I tend to not listen to too much music other than what I’m working on as it knocks me off track with what I’m doing.

But…recently The Roots “Undun” & Common’s “The Dreamer/The Believer” have been.

7. What’s the last movie that made you cry?

Hmmm…that’s a good question…?!?!?! If anything has brought a tear to my eye…it’s been movies with fathers dealing with their sons…I just can’t think of any.

8.  Cat person or dog person?

Dog-only because I’m deathly allergic to cats.

9. What is more important, truth or kindness?

Truth. The optimist will tell you kindness. A realist-truth. I subscribe to the latter.

Lying to someone to be nice has never turned out good in the end.

10.    How do you define sin?

…a measure of god/religion.

11.    How do you define virtue?

See #10.

12.   Design your headstone: What does it say? What does it look like?

White Marble. Ornate carvings-something akin to pin stripe on a car.

“Here lies Mane Rok. Father. Son. Brother. Uncle.

Wishing now he invented that damn time machine so “Father Mane” could tell young “Son Mane” what was to come.”

Bonus Question: Who would you like to see answer these questions?

Dyalekt (Diamond Boiz)

AVIUS (Pron. Obvious–from Prime Element)
