Katie Herzig

Tonight’s show at the Fox Theater in Boulder is a sort of homecoming for singer-songwriter Katie Herzig. Now based in Nashville, Katie returns to Colorado while on tour in support of her new album, The Waking Sleep, her first release on Downtown/Mercer Street Records. The new album takes Katie in new directions, incorporating samples, drum loops, and digital production.

Katie is a recording industry veteran with five albums under her belt, and many songs written for film soundtracks, including The Sex  & The City movie.

While working on the new album, Katie and producer Cason Cooley were inspired by contemporary alternative pop music and, perhaps not surprisingly, film scores, to move away from the spare, acoustic sound of her earlier work. In addition to the changes that The Waking Sleep represent in her sound, Katie also found that the lyrics of her new songs were moving into new areas. Katie says, “The key songs—”The Waking Sleep,” “Make a Noise,” “Way to the Future,” “Free My Mind”—all raise bigger questions about things going on in the world.”

The result is thoughtful, engaging pop music, with brilliantly clear vocals that will have you singing along. We hope you’ll check Katie out tonight at the Fox Theater in Boulder, and you can download her album from her website. This Colorado native isn’t just coming home, she’s truly come into her own.
