I’ve got to preface this intro by saying that I’m a huge Julie Klausner fan.
As an ardent listener of her podcast, How Was Your Week, I can’t say enough about how motivating it can be to listen to while running three miles on the treadmill. Not really because Julie talks about exercise – she doesn’t actually. Thank heavens. The motivation comes from laughter. The opening theme song, by the illustrious Ted Leo, makes me smile and then Julie comes in welcoming you with her smooth hi and hello – my attitude is immediately adjusted. She meanders through her week and chats you up about a cute dog picture someone emailed her, the latest horrifying moment on the television show Smash, her Red Head Hall of Fame, or who she hate-follows on Twitter. And whether you follow Mario Lopez or not, you suddenly feel in the know about what’s good out in the world. The show features brilliant guests like Amy Poehler, Patton Oswalt, Ira Glass and so many more. Julie is funny, honest, crazy smart and she hates birds. Clearly, my kind of lady.

But see, the podcast isn’t all that she’s got going on. Julie wrote a wildly popular book called I Don’t Care About Your Band that got some attention from Will Ferrell’s and Adam McKay’s production company. She’s written for The New York Times, New York Magazine, McSweeney’s, Salon, The AV Club, Nerve and The Awl too. And she’s got TV staff writing credits up the wazoo. From Funny or Die Presents: Billy On The Street to Robert Smigel’s TV Fun House on SNL, Julie has dipped a toe or two in the comedy writing pool and she’s all the more wise and witty for it.

I want to hang out with Julie Klausner. I want to split a bottle of chardonnay and discuss Bette Midler’s role in Beaches. Okay, two bottles of chardonnay.
Listen to her podcast – you’ll feel the same way. I promise.
