VTO

August 15, 2012

VTO aka Vi Thompson Overdrive were a Missoula band from 1992-2000 that stirred up controversy by using the name of a local TV figure as their band’s name. Twelve years later they’re back at it with the same line-up from 2000. VTO plays punk rock music with an occasional countrified set. The line up is Charlie Beaton (our respondent) on guitar and vocals, Joe Bates on guitar, Brian Collins on drums, and Greg Twigg on bass.

Missoula old timers will be crowding the stage at the VFW on Saturday, but for all you uninitiated, this set is worth pushing your way to the front!

1.    What is your hometown?

Helena, Montana but I’ve lived in Missoula since 1988.

2.    With what fictional character do you most identify?

Howard Roark from the Fountainhead.  Mostly out of his drive of individualism.

3.    In the movie of your life, cast an actor to play you.

Hmmm?  How about Gary Sinese because my wife always thinks I look like him.

4.    What work of art speaks to your soul?

Architecture.  I used to major in it and have always had a small obsession with it.  I like the fact that no matter how old something is you can go to it, touch it, walk in it, smell in it.  It can be a really moving experience. Music would be a close second.

5.    What books are you currently reading or recommending?

City of Thieves by David Benioff.  Story about Russian kids during WWII escaping from the Nazis.

6. What song or album is currently in heavy rotation on your iPod?

Mark Lanegan Band, King Tuff, and Young Evils lately.  I don’t think a week goes by though that I don’t listen to X or the Ramones.  How can you go wrong?

6.    What’s the last movie that made you cry?

The movie Stepbrothers made me cry from laughter.  I don’t think I generally cry watching movies.

7.    Cat person or dog person?

Neither but my kids made us get a dog so I guess I have to lean with “dog”.

8.    What is more important, truth or kindness?

Kindness.

9.    How do you define sin?

Violating the morals of society.

10.How do you define virtue?

Doing “the right thing”

11.Design your headstone: What does it say? What does it look like?

I don’t really like to think about that stuff so I’ll leave it up to my family and friends.  Should have a references to ice cream, guitars, running, family and God though.

Bonus Question: Who would you like to see answer these questions?
