My Body Sings Electric

April 3, 2013

My Body Sings Electric

My Body Sings Electric is a band that demands your attention. Whether through crystal clear album production or dynamic live shows, they make sure you understand when it comes to their music, they are all business.

The band was crowned winners of KTCL’s Hometown for the Holidays contest in 2012 (the third straight year they had placed in the top 3) – sweeping both the overall prize and the crowd favorite vote. Since late 2011, the band has released two singles, Doctor and Oceancrest (including engineering and mixing from Jason Livermore), and has watched their shows grow larger and larger with continued success. Highlights include gigs on main stage at Westword Music Festival, and dates with The Flobots, 3OH!3 and The Chain Gang of 1974. They also self-booked two west coast tours and trips to Austin for SXSW in 2012 and 2013.

In the spring of 2012, My Body Sings Electric’s album Changing Color cracked the top 200 on the CMJ charts and the band inked licensing agreements with 17 national TV networks including Showtime, MTV, Bravo, Fox Sports and Discovery Networks. That’s not bad for a group of self-managed, self-funded Denver music scene misfits with higher goals in mind. The successes of the past years have only gone to make the band hungrier. They show no signs of slowing down soon.

1. What is your hometown?

Denver, CO

2. With what fictional character do you most identify?

Gandolf from Lord of the Rings…he’s deadly…real deadly.

3. In the movie of your life, cast an actor to play you.

We cast the members of our favorite show Trailer Park Boys to play all of us.

4. What work of art speaks to your soul?

The Hoyt Radio Tower…at 608.38 meters, it is the tallest structure in Colorado.

5. What books are you currently reading or recommending?

None of us actually learned to read. That was actually what brought the band together. We all went to elementary school together and in the third grade we were all put in this “special” class where we just messed around all day. We eventually picked up some instruments and started a crazy awesome rock band. We’ve since started to learn to read enough to piece together small sentences and short paragraphs like the one we’re writing now but not nearly enough to read entire chapter books.

6. What song or album is currently in heavy rotation on your iPod?

We’re really digging everything here in the Denver music scene. The Epilogues released a great record not too long ago as well as The Photo Atlas, Air Dubai and this great local act Swing Hero is about to release a killer EP this week.

7. What’s the last movie that made you cry?

Probably The Fox and the Hound…why can’t a fox and a hound just be best friends?

8.  Cat person or dog person?

9. What is more important, truth or kindness?

10.    How do you define sin?

Anything Shirley Temple wouldn’t do, say or feel.

11.    How do you define virtue?

Anything Shirley Temple would do, say or feel.

12.   Design your headstone: What does it say? What does it look like?

It would be a half Oreo, half Reese’s ice-cream cake. The words ‘Guys…we’re dead’ would be written on top in that really delicious tasting icing they have.

Bonus Question: Who would you like to see answer these questions?

Ask our pal Marshall Gallagher in Swing Hero!
