May 6, 2013

The Jim Ivins Band

New York City pop rockers The Jim Ivins Band have been making a name for themselves since their 2008 inception, scoring rave reviews from publications like The Aquarian and, sharing the stage with national acts, while showcasing at festivals like the 2013 SXSW Music Festival and the 2009 Miami Music Festival. In addition to the live setting, the band has associated itself with top names in the studio as well, working with the likes of Grammy Award winners John Seymour (Santana, U2, Dave Matthews Band) and Michael Congdon (Chris Brown), as well as Mark Santangelo (Neon Trees, The Weeknd, Neil Diamond) and The Early November’s Ace Enders.

If your Tuesday morning needs a boost, give a listen to “Everything We Wanted,” the title track from their latest release, and read on. Your toe will be tapping by Question 4. Promise!

1. What is your hometown?

Richmond, VA

2. With what fictional character do you most identify?

Captain Geech from Captain Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters

3. In the movie of your life, cast an actor to play you.

The Old Man from Pawn Stars

4. What work of art speaks to your soul?

The film Wild Things…But seriously, Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye.” Also John Mayer’s Continuum and Damien Rice’s O.

5. What books are you currently reading or recommending?

My ex-girlfriend got me really into Michael Chabon – “Mysteries of Pittsburgh” and “Wonder Boys” are fantastic. On the non-fiction side, Sammy Hagar “Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock” is FASCINATING and definitely my favorite. Also great was my latest rock autobiography read – Duff McKagan’s “It’s So Easy (And Other Lies).” Did you know Duff Beer on The Simpsons was named after him?!

6. What song or album is currently in heavy rotation on your iPod?

The Jim Ivins Band Everything We Wanted, of course!*shameless plug*

But ever since it came out in October, Machine Gun Kelly’s Lace Up has been number one in my rotation. Also Soundgarden King Animal, Conditions Full of War, Justin Timberlake The 20/20 Experience, Garbage Not Your Kind Of People and I just got the new Fall Out Boy album Save Rock and Roll which is fantastic.

7. What’s the last movie that made you cry?

Mrs. Doubtfire. Kind of a weird choice but something about that movie, specifically the end, gets me (I’m also oddly being completely serious on this one).

8. Cat person or dog person?

As the great Ron Swanson said: “Any dog under 50 pounds is a cat and cats are pointless.” Fat bulldogs are the way to go.

9. What is more important, truth or kindness?

Truth. Kindness doesn’t mean shit if it isn’t genuine.

10. How do you define sin?

Something Mötley Crüe specialize in at their Carnival.

11. How do you define virtue?

Everything in the film Warriors of Virtue.

12. Design your headstone: What does it say? What does it look like?

I remember Cookie’s eulogy for Curly in City Slickers was “God, we give you Curly. Try not to piss him off.” Something as poetic as that on a piece of granite with my name and my birthday on it.

Bonus Question: Who would you like to see answer these questions?

The Old Man fromPawn Stars.
